Through resource sharing the two Councils are able to balance economic efficiency with maintaining local democracy, keeping a sense of place and a sense of community. Partnerships of this nature enable the communities to gain benefits that may have been otherwise unattainable. In 2010, both Council’s agreed to resource share one General Manager.
The resource-sharing arrangement is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding which articulates all the terms and conditions for the parties to abide by. Both councils have seen improved levels of service quality, economies of scope and scale and increased organisational development and strategic capacity.
The current General Manager has communicated his intentions to retire in June 2024. Council is now seeking a highly experienced and capable General Manager to continue the positive platform established over thirteen years of a shared General Manager. The opportunity to become the General Manager of Latrobe-Kentish Council Municipalities is indeed a significant and multifaceted role that requires a unique set of skills and experiences within local government. To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated your achievements across the following areas;
Leadership and Experience:
- Extensive experience in local government as a General Manager or Senior Executive.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Mayors and Councillors whilst demonstrating sound political acumen.
- Successful track record of leadership achievements in a complex council organisation, which demonstrates your accomplishments in managing teams, budgets, and fostering a positive work culture.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders where you effectively engaged with multiple stakeholders to achieve common goals or resolve complex issues.
- Experience in managing complex budgets and developing robust governance frameworks and structures within a local government setting that ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in council operations.
- Demonstrated capability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions for enhancing service delivery aligned with Council’s vision, community strategic plans and council delivery programs.
