Overview
Barossa Hills Fleurieu LHN encompasses a diverse area of South Australia. The Adelaide Hills region, and Mount Barker specifically, is one of the fastest growing populations in Australia. Mount Barker is 30km from metropolitan Adelaide and is a rapidly growing peri-urban region.
At present, the Inpatient Medicine Unit can support up to approximately 30 inpatients at one time. There are recently approved plans for a new Mount Barker Hospital to be built on the existing site. With 102 total beds, it is anticipated that the build will be complete by end of 2027.
The Inpatient Medicine medical practitioner will be based primarily at Mount Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (MBDSMH) and will provide ward-based medical support to the existing Inpatient Medicine Unit. At present, there are three consultant medical practitioners who provide the senior medical input to the ward patients on a rotating basis.
This position is not currently accredited as a specialist training position.
The main objectives of the role include to:
- Be responsible with senior support for managing the care of medical inpatients allocated to them in collaboration with nursing staff and allied health professionals.
- Participate in a 7-day roster
- Participate in continuing education activities.
- Participate in education and training for medical and nursing staff.
- Encourage and support teamwork amongst medical, nursing, and allied health staff for optimal clinical service outcomes.
- Be involved in Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
