About Mulungu
Mulungu is an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation focused on providing holistic services to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on the Tablelands.
About the Role
This is a new position resulting from successful pilot research to employ Social Workers in North Queensland GP Clinics to deliver social work services to patients while also supervising placement students.
The General Practice Social Worker reports directly to the General Manager Health Services and provides support to the GP Clinic, practicing in the areas of ageing, disability and caring responsibilities and with patients with mental health challenges, financial stress and grief and loss. Providing information about services in the community to both patients and members of the multidisciplinary clinic team. Tasks include-
- Undertaking psychosocial assessments with a range of patient groups to determine patient needs.
- Delivering evidence-based social work interventions in response to identified issues including information and referral, advocacy, facilitating meetings with family, Community resources and health professionals, brief counselling.
- Responding with advanced clinical judgement to sensitive issues such as Elder Abuse and welfare. concerns, Domestic and Family Violence, self-harm and suicidal ideation, and Child Protection.
- Supporting GP with mental health care plans and other relevant assessments as required.
About You
You have a Bachelor of Social Work recognised by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), membership of AASW and experience working in a medical or allied health setting.
Selection Criteria
SC 1 Bachelor of Social Work Studies and/or Mental Health or equivalent, or Bachelor of Social Work and current membership with the AASW.
SC 2 Demonstrated ability to work as an independent practitioner making advanced clinical decisions within a multidisciplinary team with the ability to practice a range of interventions with patients as referred by GPs and other practice staff.
SC 3 Experience working with Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander people and demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and their health needs.
SC 4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team structure.
SC 5 Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of continuous quality improvement and integrated risk management.
SC 6 Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety legislation and the Equal Employment Opportunity and Antidiscrimination Acts.
Additional Factors- Must have current membership with the AASW upon commencement.
- Eligible to obtain a Medicare Provider number.
- Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence (Queensland) is required.
- Willingness to undergo an Australian Federal Police Check.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a current Working with Children Blue Card.
