Position Overview
As the GIS Officer, you'll spearhead the meticulous management and upkeep of Council's invaluable property, land, environment, and asset data. Your primary mission is to ensure the seamless operation and accuracy of our Geographic Information System (GIS), empowering decision-makers with actionable insights derived from spatial analysis. By creating comprehensive maps and visualisations, you'll play a pivotal role in guiding land use planning, optimising asset management strategies, conducting environmental analysis, and conducting demographic studies. Your dedication to data integrity and proficiency in GIS tools will be instrumental in driving informed decision-making and facilitating sustainable development initiatives within our vibrant community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain an inventory of Council’s geographical information.
- Facilitate the collection, storage maintenance, and sharing of geographical information.
- Create and deliver GIS training and technical support for users.
- Provide advice, data, and information to stakeholders.
- Undertake routine maintenance of Council’s property system.
- Respond to day-to-day public inquiries.
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with Council policies and procedures.
- Perform related duties as required and directed.

Essential Criteria:
- Graduate Certificate in Geographical Information Science or Diploma in Information Technology or a related discipline and/or demonstrated previous experience in a similar role.
- Experience with the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and analysis of geospatial data.
- Ability to deliver GIS training and/or provision of technical support to users.
- Demonstrated proficiency in information and communication systems.
- Good communication skills (oral and written).
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Class C Drivers Licence.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity, Work Health and Safety, Risk, Environmental, and quality principles and practices.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in local government.
- Knowledge of Land Information systems.
- Experience with QGIS and FME or other similar products.
- Experience in designing and maintaining geospatial workflows/integrations.
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline (e.g. Bachelor of Applied Geographical Information Systems or Bachelor of Applied Science).
