The Department:
The Pharmacy service operates over 4 sites within Northern Health and has a strong vision to deliver exceptional, evidenced-based care to our patients - with a clear focus on research, medication safety and clinical excellence. We are currently undergoing a large period of expansion and specialisation, creating exciting opportunities for individuals keen to challenge themselves and progress their professional knowledge and skills.
The Role:
A full-time, permanent opportunity exists for a Grade 3 Pharmacist - Quality Use of Medicine (QUM) to join the team at Northern Health. This role will cover 80 hours per fortnight, Monday-Friday 0800-1700 plus occasional weekend, on-call and public holiday shifts.
The role of the clinical pharmacist is an integral part of our growing workforce, which comprises of over 100 pharmacists and 30 technicians. The successful applicant will provide oversight and leadership of our pharmacy procurement portfolio as well as being a valued member of the multidisciplinary team.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Holding responsibility for the tender and procurement of pharmaceuticals
- Identifying targets for expenditure minimisation and medication safety optimisation
- Provide support to the management of specialised medication access schemes/programs, the NH Drug Formulary and Individual Patient Usage requests
- Represent the Pharmacy Department at relevant internal/external meetings relating to pharmaceutical supply and access.
- Provide a leadership role in ensuring excellence in client care, promotion of quality and cost-effectiveness, education of clinical staff, well as team and program development.
- Ensuring high quality pharmaceutical care and optimising pharmacotherapy to improve patient outcome
- Mentoring and supervising pharmacy technicians, pharmacy interns and undergraduate students, as well as providing education to staff from other disciplines

To be successful in this role you will have:
- A recognised degree in Pharmacy from an approved tertiary institution and hold full current AHPRA registration
- Ability to produce a service of excellence by use of Quality Improvement techniques and be familiar with National Standards Accreditation requirements
- Previous exposure to a broad range of hospital practice areas
- Well established leadership skills, and quality/finance experience
- Good time management and organisational skills are a must.
