The Role
An exciting opportunity exists within our Corporate Services directorate for a Graduate Accountant. In this role, you will be responsible for providing quality, accurate and timely financial support to the organisation while learning about the fundamentals of Local Government financial planning, reporting, systems and administration in the context of a development program. This is a 2 year structured development program and mentorship, designed to support you in your career journey at Whitsunday Regional Council.
Essential
- C Class drivers licence
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Officer Suite of Applications.
- Currently in the last 2 years of study towards a Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or Graduated in the last 2 years.
- Hold or working towards obtaining a recognised professional accounting qualification (eg Chartered Accountant or CPA).
- Sound understanding of general accounting principles and Australian Taxation Law.
- Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills with well developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Self motivated and well developed planning and organisational skills with the ability to work independently, work on multiple tasks, determine priorities and meet deadlines.
- A passion to constantly learn, develop and grow.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a corporate environment.
- Planning to commence a post graduate qualification, such as the Certified Practising Accounting (CPA Program) or Masters studies.
- Currently residing in the Whitsundays or an intention to relocate to the region.
- Knowledge of the Local Government Act 2009, Local Government Regulations 2012 and relevant AASB Accounting Standards.
