Operating from our Cavan SA site is Glen Dimplex Australia’s Solid Fuel R&D department, specialising in the development of Solid Fuel Heating appliances.
About the position
We are looking for a talented Graduate Design Engineer with strong knowledge of SolidWorks, great hands-on prototyping skills, an interest in testing products and a good understanding of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacture.
Based at the Cavan SA site and reporting to the R&D Manager the position offers great job variety – being involved with SolidWorks development of current and new product ranges, assisting with the design of new product and improvement of current product ranges, hands on prototyping and testing of new products to relevant Australian Standards in a NATA accredited lab, through to transitioning new product from R&D into production and assisting production with quality management thereafter.
Responsibilities include
- Hands-on manufacture of prototypes for testing
- CAD modelling and engineering drawings (SolidWorks) for new and current products
- Learn and understand the relevant Australian Standards to which the products must comply
- Facilitate pilot production activities and production handover of new products
- Support production with troubleshooting and continual improvement of new and current products
- Assist production with quality management
- Liaise with other internal functions of the business where required
- Liaise with external parties, OEM suppliers, and off-shore manufacturers
About you
To be considered for this role, you will satisfy the following:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- 0-2 years professional experience in an engineering capacity
- Previous exposure to a manufacturing environment
- Basic knowledge of designing for sheet metal
- Strong knowledge of SolidWorks
- Experience with engineering drawings/drafting
- Demonstrated ability to be able to take the initiative and be a self-starter
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other departments
Advantageously you will also have:
- Previous exposure to a laboratory environment
- Practical experience or a willingness to learn how to work with sheet metal – cutting, welding, assembly of prototypes etc.
- Interest in testing (with training) new products to relevant Australian Standards
- Experience with SolidEdge
- Experience in Solid Fuel combustion
