About the role
You will be joining a dedicated and professional victims of crime team assisting applicants access the services and support available to them through VOCAT. Your role is critical to ensure that victims access the support available and obtain assistance with counselling, medical and other expenses related to injury and loss suffered as a result of the crime committed.
This graduate role is an entry level position at YourLawyer providing training and exposure to key areas such as client engagement, file management, evidence preparation, court procedures and leading to regular tribunal appearances.
Skills
Your primary clients are victims of violent crime. Graduate applicants will need to be prepared to come alongside these people and help them navigate VOCAT as one small part of their recovery. We use a trauma-informed approach. You will need compassion, resilience and excellent administrative and communication skills.
You will need to balance your genuine concern for people with the requirements of a high-paced file load.
Preferred
A portion of our work is with the Koori Court. Candidates should indicate if they have knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, both society and culture and the issues impacting on them. Sensitive and effective communication skills would be highly regarded.
Migration or personal injury experience would also be a bonus.
