Graduate Position – Wagon Engineering!

  • Graduate position with mentoring and training provided within our Wagon engineering team!

About the Role

As a Graduate Engineer, you will work closely with the Wagon Engineering team, being mentored by experienced Engineers who will help you develop your knowledge and skills to provide technical analysis and solutions such that Pacific National’s wagon fleet meet operational requirements for safety, performance, reliability, and life. The purpose of the Graduate Engineer is to ensure all facets of standards and procedures, contract management, design, condition monitoring, programming, quality control, maintenance support, divisional networking, etc. are provided through an integrated approach. 

About You

You will be a recent Mechanical Engineer Graduate who is keen to explore the rollingstock and rail industry. You will be willing to learn from industry experts with the confidence to question and press for further understanding and when relevant challenge ideas/solutions.

In addition, you will have the ability to:

  • Develop effective and collaborative working relationships with a wide range of diversely skilled personnel.
  • Work effectively both alone on delegated tasks and when collaborating with others.
  • Manage priorities based on importance and urgency.
  • Participate in rollingstock testing in accordance with RISSB, ROA, and AAR standards, as part of design verification and validation. Ensure compliance is met to Pacific National standards and relevant regulatory codes.
  • Participate in the preparation of rollingstock regulatory compliance documentation for new and modified rollingstock builds.
  • Determining the best means of providing technical solutions to a variety of performance issues. Skills will include the ability to apply a prominent level of technical analysis and direction, as well as collaborating closely with technical experts and suppliers.
  • In conjunction with other members of the Engineering Team, participate in recording and completing FMECA’s and RCA’s for all systems. Diagnostics are to be developed to permit maintainers to quickly identify root causes. Instigate, co-ordinate and facilitate investigations as required.
  • Develop scopes of work for wagon repairs and modifications and ensure Pacific National change management process is followed.
  • Conduct audits of existing Standards and Procedures; scrutinise for where improvements are required, and revise where necessary in conjunction with other Engineering functions within Pacific National
  • Apply engineering solutions with regards to safety and applicable standards.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, other system knowledge is advantageous.
  • Sound mechanical engineering technical knowledge.
