About the Role
This position is based in Cairns.
This position reports direct to the Finance Manager and is required to deliver efficient and effective identification, planning, collaboration, implementation and evaluation of Business Development and Grant funding opportunities that provides opportunities and development for Aurukun Shire Council and our community.
This role supports each Department of Council and works with key stakeholders, government departments and local community members.
Key Accountabilities
- Seek funding opportunities for grants by preparing funding applications / submissions in accordance with Councils strategic plan and under the direction of the CEO, Directors and Finance Manager and / or other delegates
- Prepare specific project proposals and reviews for Council’s consideration/approval
- Prepare Project Performance Information Reports (PPI’s) as required or refer these to the proper staff member for completion, prior to signing off by the CEO
- Monitor the budget, follow up implementation / deliveries of program and complete acquittals for one off Grants including financial and performance reports as per grantor body’s recommendation / contract agreement
- Actively pursue job opportunities and creation for First Nations Aurukun residents through enterprise development
- Play an active role in the preparation of business plans
- Liaise with all appropriate Government and non-Government authorities and establish productive working relations with these agencies
- Coordinate and engage Council employees as required for funding and/or training opportunities e.g. capital and/or operation/recurrent costs for job creation
- Identify and assist Aurukun residents in the establishment of micro business and self-employment opportunities.
- Assist the CEO, Directors and other staff, as directed in relation to: preparation of specific correspondence, specific research and reports; Council briefs; preparation of tenders or public notices for advertising in the media
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Indigenous people
- Minimum five years demonstrated related work experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- Strong communication skills including strong report and application writing and grant submissions
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work with a diverse team, obtaining information from employees in remote locations and external clients
- Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint
- Excellent ability to work independently and with minimum supervision to achieve positive outcomes
- Must have a current Queensland Driver’s Licence
