JOB OVERVIEW: Coordinate grounds maintenance and gardening services operations. Manage the day to day human and operational resources. Actively pursue and support the acquisition of new gardening services contracts. Lead and promote the implementation of integrated management systems for Quality, Safety, Health and the Environment.

Ensure Direct Reports fully understand and comply with the Sterling QHSE requirements and relevant policies.

Be proactive in identifying hazards, developing safety procedures, and encouraging continuous improvement in relation to HSE.

Assist in identifying hazards, advising on safety procedures, and monitoring work practices to ensure adherence to correct procedures and standards for safety and environmental performance. Support the Sterling corporate quality, safety, health, and environmental management systems by:

  • Reporting to your Manager or QHSE Manager any situation that could result in harm to a person, the environment or may adversely affect the services we provide our customers.
  • Report to your Manager or QHSE Manager any opportunities that you believe would improve the quality of service we provide our customers or could reduce the potential for harm to people or the environment.
  • Understand and support the annual QHSE objectives.

To immediately pause or make safe any work condition or activity that could result in immediate harm and immediately notify either by phone or in person the responsible line manager and the QHSE adviser or Director. 

Leading and promoting the implementation of the integrated management systems for Quality, Safety, Health and the Environment.

To not punish or discipline any worker for reporting any safety or health issue.

Customer relationships

Communicate with client representatives on a day to day basis, to plan work, keep them informed of progress, resolve any issues of concern, and identify variations or additional work.

operational performance

  • Manage the grounds maintenance and gardening services activities.
  • Lead and direct teams of  grounds maintenance and gardening services personnel.
  • Coordinate and verify each worker’s competency in the workplace. Arrange for other required traning
  • Plan, schedule, Monitor and report all requirements in consultation with Grounds Manager to meet contract time commitments and maximise resource utilisation.
  • Allocate work and provide direction to Supervisors on specific work requirements.
  • Organise and direct the work of subcontractors to ensure requirements are met.

quality

Ensure that all grounds maintenance and gardening services work is in accordance with the relevant (latest editions) Statutory Requirements, State Legislation, Australian Standards and Site Quality Requirements.

Financial performance

Ensure efficient use of labour resources and completion of within budget in terms of labour and materials. Actively encourage Supervisors to adopt efficient and cost-effective work practices.

people and teams

Supervise, coach and mentor direct employees. Ensure that site workers have the necessary competencies to undertake assigned tasks. Identify training needs and organise training in conjunction with the Building Manager.

Review performance and manage any performance issues as per Sterling procedures.

Maintain a high level of communication and cooperative working relationships on site.

Be proactive in resolving any workforce issues and concerns.

OTHER

Undertake other tasks to support the project or business operations as required. Adhere to the Direction, Competence, Opportunity, and Motivation (D-COM) principles.


SELECTION CRITERIA:

ESSENTIALS:

  • Certificate III or IV  in Horticulture Studies or equivalent qualification and experience in grounds maintenance and gardening services operations.
  • Proven ability to plan, conduct and review all operational activites.
  • Proven ability to communicate across different cultures.
  • Sound knowledge of  the grounds maintenance and gardening services industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of QHSE policies and procedures applicable to the grounds maintenance and landscape services industry.
  • Ability to work within the framework of a QHSE system and participate as a committee member to continouse improvement of the QHSE.

DESIRABLE:

  • Proven record of excellence in supervison and management in the grounds maintenance and gardening services industry.
