About the opportunity
Southern Cross University’s is seeking a Grounds Officer to join our Property Services team, and play a key role providing landscaping and horticulture services to establish and maintain the University grounds. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Maintain and oversee sporting fields, off campus grounds facilities (ie Wollongbar Farm) and University nursery and indoor green walls. Tasks include watering, fertilising, removing waste, repairing damage, controlling weeds, line marking, mowing, slashing, brush cutting, propagation and horticulture and arborist works.
- Apply pesticides and insecticides as needed, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.
- Regularly inspect and undertake basic maintenance on equipment such as chainsaws, tractors and mowers.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records and safety documents, including work orders, service schedules, equipment maintenance and safety data sheets.
About you
You will have demonstrated experience with grounds maintenance, together with a strong working knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations (particularly in relation to tree felling) ensuring all work is completed safely. More specifically, you will have:
- A Certificate and/or Trade Qualification in Horticulture or Arboriculture and three years subsequent experience in horticulture and arbour work, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in the operations and maintenance of sporting fields, grounds equipment and machinery, including an elevating work platform.
- A valid Class C and MR Driver’s Licence, Current Occupational Health and Safety Green Card and Chemical Users Certificate and EWP Operators Certificate.
Salary and benefits

- Full-time, continuing (permanent)
- Located at Lismore.
- HEW Level 4. The base salary ranges from $69,473 - $74,607 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $87,290.
