The Group Coordinator Waste Operations is a member of the Waste Services team and reports directly to the Manager Waste Services. This role is responsible for leading and coordinating Council’s domestic waste collection, park and commercial garbage collection, bulk waste collection operations, and the Awaba Waste Management Facility.
The position has a key role in developing and implementing strategies for the long-term sustainable management of waste collection and disposal, and meeting Council’s statutory environmental obligations.
The position provides high level support directly to the Waste Services Manager in meeting departmental and corporate objectives and is required to relieve in the position of Manager as required.
This exciting role will:
- Coordinate the delivery of waste management services to the community in an efficient and cost-effective manner
- Develop and implement strategies that provide continuous improvement in processes and services.
- Investigate and project manages the introduction of new technologies and process improvements associated with the delivery of waste services and waste stream management practices.
- Provide leadership, guidance, direction and motivation to staff.
- Manage the performance of staff and ensure compliance with relevant policies, standards and legislation associated with the operations of the department.
- Develop and proactively manage and monitor operational budget relating to the section’s activities
- Liaise and foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, submissions and represent Council at meetings, media interviews and conferences as required.

LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU
- You have Degree qualifications in a relevant field e.g. Environmental Engineering Degree or Diploma, Environmental Science Degree or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Previous experience within a similar position in waste management related to Local Government is preferred though not essential.
- You will have experience in contract administration, financial management along with advanced analytical and process management skills.
- Having excellent communication and interpersonal skills your conflict resolution skills and ability to display a high level of resilience will be evident.
- Your excellent customer service skills to identify customer’s needs is of a high standing.
- You will have a passion for developing and maintaining trusting and cooperative relationships with high key stakeholders, employees and customers.
- As a leader your forward-thinking, open-minded approach will ensure you can work within established procedures, while challenging the “norms”, and be productive and efficient in your decisions
- Most of all you are team player with a positive work ethic and a 'can-do' attitude!
- You hold a current Class C drivers licence.
