ABOUT THE ROLE

The Growth & Engagement Lead - NT is responsible for growing the AFL Northern Territory community umpire membership base, through dedicated brand awareness, reputation management, social engagement, event management, and lead generation.

In supporting positive environments and opportunities for development, the successful candidate will deliver retention and engagement strategies that contribute to umpires coming to and staying in the game; ensuring there are sufficient umpires to support community football. This role plays an important part in growing and developing the game across the NT.

This full-time position is based in Darwin, Northern Territory.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Key Accountabilities:

  • Delivering on the National Umpiring strategy to support the recruitment, engagement, training and transition of community umpires and umpire coaches.
  • Supporting the development of content and rollout of curriculum aligned to the national umpire accreditation and development system for umpires and umpire coaches.
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver state-based initiatives and activities to recruit and retain new umpires and umpire coaches and increase the diversity and overall quantity within community football umpiring ranks.
  • Actioning initiatives to improve umpire program environments, including upskilling and supporting umpire coaches.
  • Collaborating with the National Umpire Recruitment, Development and Retention Lead and other States and Territories to develop and share best practice.
  • Driving diversity in community umpiring and supporting the actions outlined in the Women and Girls Action Plan.
  • Support and contribute to the success of the broader umpiring and community football departments.

  • Demonstrated commitment to driving change.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes.
  • Ability to build, develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Understanding of recruitment, retention and engagement strategies and principles.
  • Experience in Australian Rules Football is not essential - experience and perspectives outside of community football or officiating would be highly valuable.
  • Confidence and ability to present to a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work outside of normal business hours, as required.
  • Self-driven and ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in social media and content will be well regarded.
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and delivering project initiatives.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in either teaching/facilitation, coaching, change management or human resources are encouraged to apply for this role.
