Job description

NTAIC is a corporate Commonwealth entity, established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (Northern Territory) 1976, and designed in partnership with Aboriginal Territorians. Our purpose is to work with Aboriginal Territorians to achieve economic, social and cultural impact through innovative approaches to investments, beneficial payments and other financial assistance. To support this, we have initial grant funding of $180 million and an investment corpus of $500 million. Our Aboriginal-controlled board share a vision of self-determination, with Aboriginal Territorians at the centre of NTAIC's work. 

 Position Purpose: 

This role is responsible for leading NTAIC’s activities to support NT Aboriginal businesses and organisations to access business and other supports, manage grant compliance and engagement activities, undertake strategic advocacy to strengthen supports available to NT Aboriginal businesses organisations, and design and implement NTAIC-specific supports where required.

 Key responsibilities include: 

  • Connect organisations to supports: Provide high level advice, support and coordination to Aboriginal businesses and organisations accessing NTAIC grants or investment offerings to connect them with business and other supports. 
  • Monitor the system: Develop and maintain a map of the supports available to NT Aboriginal organisations, and an analysis of the efficacy and suitability of these supports. 
  • Manage community engagement: Manage NTAIC’s Community Engagement Officers, and their activities to support Aboriginal businesses and organisations to access appropriate existing supports, monitor the appropriateness of existing supports from a community viewpoint, and undertake compliance activities to ensure that grant recipients are meeting their agreement obligations. 
  • Advocate and contribute to system change: Collaborate, influence and negotiate with other organisations working to assist NT Aboriginal businesses and organisations to ensure that supports are relevant and fit for purpose. 
  • Continuous improvement of NTAIC’s grant and investment supports: Ensure that NTAIC’s supports remain relevant to the needs of NT Aboriginal businesses and organisations and work collaboratively with other NTAIC business units to adjust and improve in response to evidence and stories collected over time. 
  • Support NTAIC’s work: Provide advice and contribute to priority NTAIC policies and projects, with a particular focus on the needs of NT Aboriginal organisations to plan for and achieve viability and sustainability.

Essential

  • Advanced skills in cross cultural communication, negotiation, conflict management, consultation and liaison with constituents, community organisations, industry groups and government departments.   
  • Experience in providing supports to Aboriginal organisations and businesses, especially those in the start-up or growth phases. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the supports available to Aboriginal organisations, and the stakeholders that provide them. 
  • Proven influencing, negotiation and relationship-management skills in an environment requiring highly developed interpersonal skills, and a proven capacity for highly effective communication with a range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal people and organisations and government representatives.    
  • Experience in project design, implementation, management and evaluation and the capacity to lead a range of complex projects through partnerships with people across different business areas, functions and organisations and deliver timely and high-quality outcomes.   
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling succinct and compelling presentations to a variety of stakeholders with clear analysis and recommendations. 
  • Ability to undertake compliance activities, including conduct investigations and undertake dispute resolution or facilitate remediation activities. 
  • Ability to manage a team working from multiple remote locations. 

Desirable

  • Experience in providing supports to NT Aboriginal organisations and businesses, especially those in the start-up or growth phases. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the supports available to NT Aboriginal organisations, and the stakeholders that provide them. 
  • Understanding of nation-building principles, self-determination and impact investment approaches.  
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field for example business or commerce.
