Job description

You will be working in our Mission Beach Hatchery facility where we breed and grow our own Tiger prawns. As a member of the team, you will be helping to ensure the optimal health and growth of our Broodstocks and assist us in delivering a high-quality, healthy, and sustainable Post-Larvae to our farms.

Mission Beach: You'll work a flexible roster at our Prawn Hatchery in Bingil Bay. Work/life balance is key; you'll have plenty of time to enjoy everything Far North Queensland offers!

What does your week look like?

Feeding prawns: Perform daily basic tasks involved in Prawn Hatchery, including feed preparation and feeding.

Prawn Health Duties: Routine overview and sampling of Prawn Health using basic microscopy and visual observation. Identify, diagnose, escalate and problem-solve all prawn health issues that arise in a timely manner.

Checking water quality: Water quality sampling and testing using different tools (Water quality meters and probes).

Record-keeping: Use the iPad and Computers to keep accurate records of hatchery activities, including larval production and water quality parameters.

Implement Biosecurity Protocols: Perform routine tasks to prevent disease outbreaks and maintain a healthy environment, including disinfection and cleaning hatchery tanks and equipment.

General animal husbandry: Routine overview of animal husbandry and health, escalating potential issues in a timely manner.

Any aquaculture/ agriculture experience is highly desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

*this is a physically demanding job. Any successful applicants will be required to undertake a health and fitness test before commencing work.
