Head of Commerce
The Head of Commerce leads the delivery of Commerce education across Years 7 to 12. The position supports the strategic direction of Peninsula Grammar through delivery of effective teaching and learning programs, by fostering an inclusive and challenging learning environment, and by engaging with the School community within and beyond the classroom.
Key responsibilities include:
Teach VCE Commerce subjects, including Business Management, Accounting, Legal, Economics
Develop, maintain, improve and co-ordinate an inspiring and contemporary curriculum for Years 7-12, delegating duties as appropriate but maintaining overall control and responsibility
Develop a strategic plan that aligns the operations of the department with the strategic intents as outlined in the strategic plan for teaching and learning, towards the fulfilment of each identified goal
Design curriculum in consultation, where appropriate, with the Heads of Learning Areas to provide the integration of learning technologies and digital resources in curricula at each year level
Oversee the mapping of the curriculum for their department as part of a consistent, school-wide, structure
Foster and lead curriculum innovation in conjunction with the Heads of School
Act as an advocate for the department throughout the School community and in the wider sphere. This includes, but is not limited to, the writing of articles for newsletters and publications, school course guides, the publication of journal articles and the presentation at conferences
Ensure compliance with state and federal policy and documentation as outlined by the government and sector specific governing bodies
Adhere to the School’s assessment and reporting policies and practices
Utilise feedback to continually improve assessment practices
Develop, select, and use informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to assess student learning
Prepare timely and meaningful feedback and reports and notifications to students and parents
Participate in moderation activities to support consistent and comparable judgements of student learning
Maintain clear records pertaining to student progress and assessment
Qualifications & Registrations
Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)
Current First Aid – HLTAID011 and CPR - HLTAID009 (Can be provided by the school)
Child safety and mandatory reporting training
Skills and Experience
Strong background in commerce subject disciplines
Experienced in developing and deliver effective lessons that align with the curriculum to inspire student learning and performance
Previous teaching experience in co-educational and/or independent school
Experience working in a team environment and demonstrated success in being a collaborative team member
Extensive experience in leadership and organisation
Experience influencing change and adapting programs
Confident in working autonomously and in a team setting to produce quality outcomes.
Demonstrated understanding of the needs of children.
Thorough knowledge of contemporary educational practices as they relate to critical thinking, problem solving, innovation and collaboration.
Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to think logically and laterally.
Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet prescribed deadlines and concurrently manage competing tasks to effectively to deliver on priorities.
Capacity to organise and deliver exceptional presentations to diverse audiences.
An understanding of the Victorian Curriculum and Social and Emotional Learning is desirable.
Strong ICT skills, with evidence of technology in classroom practices.
