How will I help?
You will be a key Head of 2nd line Risk that is responsible for ensuring the management of Conduct Risk across the Group is within appetite, meets Regulatory and Compliance requirements and drives behaviours that support fair outcomes for our customers and the markets in which we operate. This includes managing and supporting the embedment of Westpac's “Code of Conduct”, owned by our Chief Executive Officer, which sets out the consistent standards that we expect from our people.
Under the current operating model, the role has 5 direct reports, and the team are a centre of excellence for Conduct Risk, responsible for:
  • Setting the standard and approach to deliver fair customer outcomes and market integrity
  • Providing subject matter expertise across the Group to resolve Conduct risks and issues
  • Providing guidance, training, and initiatives across the Group to uplift capability
  • Developing tools to help senior leaders, people leaders and team members manage Conduct Risk
  • Management of Conduct Risk within defined appetite measures
Key Accountabilities:
  • Support and enable the Group Conduct Risk team to achieve their objectives, developing the team's capabilities as an enabler of continuous improvement in the way that the Group thinks about and acts on Conduct Risk.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships organisation-wide across the lines of defence that support achievement of Group, Divisional, Line of Business and Business Unit objectives for Conduct Risk management.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Group Risk Culture team to achieve shared behavioural risk management objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee implementation of Group-level frameworks, Policies, Standards and Guidance relating to Conduct Risk to define regulatory and compliance requirements and align with risk appetite.
  • Provide independent advice, oversight, and challenge to the Group regarding the management of Conduct risk.
  • Maintain oversight of the global Regulatory environment as it relates to Conduct Risk, raise awareness of implications to the Group's management of Conduct Risk and drive the implementation of any related changes.
  • Proactively identify gaps and opportunities to uplift the management of Conduct Risk and design/implement remediation/uplift intervention.
  • Provide independent advice, oversight and challenge of the design and implementation of strategic and regulatory projects where there are Conduct Risk implications to ensure that related risks are well managed and mitigating controls are appropriately designed, tested, and implemented.
  • Raise awareness of Conduct Risk, including the consequences of failing to effectively manage Conduct Risk, across the organisation.
  • Work with relevant Line 1 Controls & Monitoring and Line 2 Divisional teams where necessary on the implementation and maintenance of Conduct Risk policies, procedures, controls, processes, and assurance to ensure that we meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare regular Board and Executive reporting to ensure the appropriate governance and escalation of Conduct risks, issues and incidents with regulatory reporting and insight to Board and risk committees.

What do I need?
As well as excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, you will require the following skills and experience:
  • 10+ years in Conduct Risk discipline (or equivalent e.g., Culture, Compliance etc.) with 5+ years relevant experience at a similar level.
  • Deep understanding of Conduct Risk, including Regulatory frameworks, industry best practice and emerging trends.
  • Able to demonstrate emotionally intelligent leadership with demonstrable experience in building high-performing teams.
  • Advanced skills in identifying, assessing and mitigating Conduct Risk and / or behavioural risk within a large, financial services organisation.
  • Unquestionable ethics, ability to set a high ethical standard and promote a culture of compliance and integrity throughout the organisation.
  • Ability to continually challenge the status quo to develop and implement better ways to monitor and manage Conduct Risk.
