Marsh McLennan is seeking candidates for the following position based in the Sydney or Melbourne office:

What can you expect?
An exciting newly created opportunity has become available for a senior, experienced External Affairs and Media Relations Specialist to join Marsh McLennan in the Pacific Region. Reporting to the Marsh McLennan International Media Relations and External Affairs Leader, you will play a key role in elevating public awareness of Marsh McLennan and its four businesses – Marsh, Mercer, Oliver Wyman and Guy Carpenter, and ensuring favourable brand association in line with regional and global brand strategy.
Utilising your prior experience in government or corporate communications, you will develop a Media Relations and External Affairs strategy, manage relationships with PR agencies and other service providers, and develop relationships with target Tier 1, broadcast, trade and general business media journalists in the region.

We will count on you to:
Develop Media Relations and External Affairs strategy for the Pacific region which supports building Marsh McLennan identity in the region at a level fitting to the stature of the brand, as well as building the business brands with particular focus on Marsh and Mercer.
Execute to the regional strategy connecting Media Relations and External Affairs activities to marketing and communication plans and business initiatives.
Provide oversight and leadership on all Media Relations activity, aiming to maximise effectiveness and minimise any reputational risk.
Manage relationships with local PR agencies and other providers, driving results and value for the enterprise.
Provide strategic counsel on all media and External Affairs matters, working closely with senior management, including regional, business division, and marketing leadership, to promote business objectives through proactive media and External Affairs strategies, ensuring alignment to business and marketing objectives.
Work with the global Media Relations and External Affairs team, ensuring the implementation of global standards and processes in order to drive best practice and a consistent messaging for external communications globally.
Ensure alignment of Media Relations activities with key regional sales and marketing campaigns.
Build strong internal networks, increasing collaboration on key issues across the firm, including building an effective internal funnel for communications content.
Lead crisis and issues management communications response providing advice to senior colleagues regionally and globally.
Oversee increase in positive/proactive media coverage, including building relationships with tier 1 target media and trade publications in key industries delivering increase in share of voice.
Develop and manage relationships with relevant trade bodies and other external stakeholders, in conjunction with Marsh McLennan’s Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs function where appropriate.
Develop exceptional relationships with target Tier 1, broadcast, trade and general business media journalists in the region with a reputation for being responsive and informative.
Vet external speaking engagement opportunities, in line with the firm’s Media Relations policy.
Align External Affairs and Media Relations priorities to the regional marketing and communications strategy.
What you need to have:
At least 10-12 years’ senior Media Relations and External Affairs experience required, ideally within the professional or financial services industry.
Evidence of ongoing education and upskilling in relevant fields.
Strong leadership skills.
Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, with strong attention to detail and high grammatical standards. Track record of effective engagement with all levels of stakeholders, including c-suite, boards and external stakeholders.
Ability to think critically and regularly evaluate work at planning, execution and reporting stages, providing actionable insights to inform decision-making or solve a problem.
Display curiosity about the industry, our businesses, communication trends and ideas, and bring this into the work delivered in the form of new ideas.
