The role
FISHBOWL’s success depends on producing consistently delicious, fresh, and safe products that delight customers. Food safety is critical to this. We produce and deliver all our products in-house and we’re looking for a highly capable Head of Food Safety to lead and enforce Food Safety standards of our production facilities, produce, and restaurants.
In this role, you’ll oversee this work to an exceptional standard and continuously improve processes in your remit. You’ll report into the Chief Operations Officer and work closely with the Head of Supply Chain and Production, Head of Restaurants, and the Head Chef to ensure we are consistently compliant and safe in our production and distribution of Food products.
As an experienced leader, you will demonstrate exceptional people leadership and communication skills. Given this role covers a national remit, occasional travel to our facilities in Victoria and Queensland will be required.
Skills and experience
You’ll have:
- Accredited experience in Food Safety and quality control, including with fresh food
- Demonstrated ability in leading teams in operational and Food Safety environments
- Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to see the bigger picture
- Excellent track record of adhering to health and safety standards, including driving a safety culture within your team
- Characteristics reflective of FISHBOWL’s ethos: self-motivated, service-oriented, flexible, and ethical with a high degree of integrity.
Your responsibilities
Food safety compliance
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with national and state regulations for all operations
- Oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the Food Safety Program
- Conduct internal audits and pursue appropriate corrections to ensure Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene standards are followed
- Facilitate training for employees to enhance their understanding of Food Safety
- Review monitoring records systematically and address any instances of non-conformance promptly and effectively
- Undertake any additional Food Safety related activities deemed necessary to maintain compliance and uphold the highest standards of safety and hygiene.
Quality assurance management
- Build strong relationships with management, employees, and relevant external parties (such as Food Safety consultants and auditors) to align on quality assurance objectives in Food Safety
- Continuously improve Food Safety processes and procedures to support business efficiencies
- Quickly and accurately identify Food Safety issues, and provide resolutions in an accurate and timely manner
- Identify and report on supplier and ingredient performance to ensure exceptional quality.
Leadership and collaboration
- Provide strong leadership across the business fostering a culture of accountability, integrity and continuous improvement
- Serve as a mentor and coach to team members supporting their professional development and growth within the business
- Monitor regulatory developments and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance to Food Safety standards
- Prepare comprehensive reports detailing adherence to compliance metrics, audit results, findings, recommendations for improvement.
- Communicate compliance status and areas of improvement to senior management facilitating informed decision making and timely corrective actions.
