The Junior School
In the Junior School (ELC to Year 6), we aim to nurture the growth of the whole child by offering experiences for academic, creative, social, emotional and physical development. Through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), our students are encouraged to develop their self-management, be curious, be intellectually rigorous, to delight in learning and the exploration of their own potential.
The Role
Pembroke is seeking an enthusiastic and suitably experienced educational leader to undertake the permanent, full time role of Head of Inclusive Education (ELC – Year 6) commencing in January 2025. The successful candidate will lead the Inclusive Education department in our Junior School, including leading a team of Inclusive Educators who support young people with additional needs, their families, and specialised staff.
The Head of Inclusive Education (ELC – Year 6) will drive innovation and improvement to ensure personalised approaches to learning, informed by data and working with staff as they provide quality differentiated instruction that meets all students’ needs.
In this role you will
- Manage all cross-grade assessment using a variety of tools
- Lead data sharing with the Head of Teaching and Learning (ELC – Year 6) to improve classroom teaching practice
- Lead and manage staff training in identified intervention programs and oversee delivery of all intervention programs
- Develop and embed a distributed case management approach to the management of all Individual Learning Plans
- Work with specialist staff to develop training for staff in understanding neurodiversity
- Working in partnership with Head of Student Wellbeing (ELC – Year 6) to develop nuanced and personalised behaviour support plans
- In consultation with the Coordinator of Inclusive Education – Enrichment and Extension (ELC – Year 6) and other key staff, develop a vision and structure for a program that meets the needs of high potential and gifted students
- Working in partnership with classroom teachers on models of differentiated practice that meet the needs of high potential and gifted students.
To be successful in this role you will be
- Able to demonstrate a strong understanding of contemporary pedagogy.
- Well-versed in contemporary developments in the field of Inclusive Education and Learning Support and able to research, develop and lead change in this area.
- Able to work collaboratively with others in developing, implementing, and reviewing well-considered, evidenced-based approaches.
- Able to demonstrate communication skills that foster positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
- Able to critically evaluate innovative ideas and implement them successfully.
- An efficient and effective administrator, working accurately to meet deadlines and manage workflow of themselves and others, including delegation where appropriate.
- An experienced and qualified classroom teacher registered (or able to be registered) as a teacher in the State of South Australia.
