Job description

You are passionate about Policy, PR, Advocacy, Health, NFP and the community. You present as a highly credentialed, smart corporate communications Manager, currently working in the Health, Insurance, Superannuation, Government, Journalism or NFP and peak body sectors. You will be someone who has a strong understanding of the policy making process with a proven record across: policy development, media relations, government and stakeholder relations. You are very comfortable working as part of a small team, and rolling your sleeves up to get things done in our flexible workplace headquartered in Surrey Hills.

Members Health is the peak industry body for an alliance of health insurance funds that are not-for-profit or part of a member-owned group, regional or community based, and who all share a common ethic of putting their members’ health before profits. Members Health provide a valuable interchange of ideas, sharing of expertise, access to the thinking of senior government and regulatory decision-makers, innovations in service delivery and the building of relationships and collaboration. An influential and strategic advocacy and communications vehicle for the health industry, Members Health is at the forefront of an ever-changing health care sector and policy landscape. The alliance of 25 health insurers represents the interests of more than 5 million Australians.

This role is highly visible within the sector and will regularly engage with CEOs, Boards, Executives, media and political influencers. Plus, it represents an excellent opportunity for you to be in a Head of role and an integral part of a small executive team. Members Health is a growing company, and you will be charged with advancing its advocacy, Policy and Research goals, working alongside an experienced industry CEO.

You are highly motivated to succeed in all aspects of advocacy, strategic planning, government, journalism and corporate communications. Responsibilities include:

  • Driving Members Health’s impact through policy development expertise and exceptional stakeholder management
  • Demonstrating a strong grasp of governance while effectively presenting initiatives and interests within the Private Health Insurance sector
  • Preparing press releases and submissions to government, providing constructive information to decision makers and influencers
  • Building strategic partnerships between policy development and other teams. • Actively participating in industry events, working groups and forums.
  • Assisting and engaging in Board meetings, strategic planning, PR pitches and the organisation of events.

You will have completed a degree in Journalism, Politics, Communications or PR; and have at least five (5) plus years’ experience in a senior role. Your credentialled experience across peak bodies, Health, Superannuation, Insurance, NFP would be looked upon very favourably, but not absolutely mandatory.

This is a “hands on, Head of Policy and Research role” – we seek an autonomous, self-starter to work with us!
