We are currently seeking to appoint a Head of Platform Operations (Cloud/Network and End Point/Systems) to join our IT Technology Operations team, based out of John Holland's state-of-the-art Flinders Gate Melbourne office.
Working closely with the Head of Platform Engineering and other senior IT leaders, you will lead multiple, multi-disciplinary teams of platform owners, engineers, and platform administrators to produce and support high quality, robust infrastructure, and systems technology.
As a direct report to the GM Technology Operations, this role is both operational and strategic, ensuring the platforms continue to evolve and meet the demands of the JHG environment across in excess of 6500 users and 130 locations.
About the Role
- Lead and manage the Cloud (AWS/Azure), Network and End Point teams, providing guidance, coaching and feedback to ensure high performance and engagement.
- Define and implement the platform operations policies, standards, processes, and best practices, ensuring compliance with the IT governance framework and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and report on the platform operations metrics, such as availability, performance, capacity, incidents, problems, changes and service requests.
- Manage the platform operations budget, ensuring cost efficiency and optimisation of the IT resources and assets. Drive a FinOps strategy to promote cost awareness with the group
- Coordinate and oversee the platform operations projects and initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and high quality of the outcomes.
- Be the point of engagement for the business when solution requirements are needed.
- Establish, develop and maintain effective relationships with the internal and external stakeholders, such as business users, vendors, partners and service providers.
- Identify and evaluate the platform operations risks and issues and implement appropriate mitigation and resolution actions.
- Engage with the Security Operations team to align to the secure posture and ensure the platforms are compliant with the security posture. Always be seeking constant improvement in the security of the platforms
- Drive the platform operations innovation and improvement, leveraging the emerging technologies and industry best practices.
- Encouraging innovation and mitigation of risks at the earliest opportunity, accepting and learning from low cost failure
- Be a key contributor to the strategic and tactical direction of the platform
- Work closely with the Head of Platform Engineering to integrate platform designs into the operational capabilities of the platform and ensure the platform operations team is capable of running the designs.
This position will require you to have extensive experience in IT platform operations, with a significant portion being in a leadership role. A relevant Degree/Post Graduate qualification is highly regarded.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Proven track record of managing the Cloud, Network, and end point operations (including 6,500 seat M365 deployments), with in-depth knowledge of the IT infrastructure and services.
- Substantial expertise leading large-scale platforms (distributed systems) and technical projects, in an agile engineering environment.
- Agile/SCRUM experience
- Strong understanding of modern development practices and patterns
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with change management processes in enterprise environments
