Menai High School is a comprehensive, co-educational high school located in Illawong, Sutherland Shire on the southern outskirts of Sydney region with an enrolment of 1,080 students in 2024. The student population is comprised of approximately 35% LBOTE, 13% EALD and 19 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Menai High School offers an extensive curriculum with a focus on academic excellence, student welfare and extra-curricular programs. Areas of focus for the school plan 2021 - 2023 are the explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy across the school, collaborative practice, and differentiation. Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:
1. Proven leadership of a Learning Support Faculty to deliver high quality teaching and support to students with additional learning needs. Ability to lead, liaise and coordinate Departmental and external support services to meet specific learning needs.
2. Proven ability to innovate, problem solve and the build capacity of staff to cater for the diverse needs of students to improve student learning and engagement.
3. Demonstrated capacity as a dynamic member of the school leadership team to foster school wide practices of inclusion and equity with an approachable and proactive leadership style, and the ability to engage and inspire staff, parents, students, and the wider community.
4. Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills that foster positive relationships with all stakeholders, collaborate, develop, and implement strategies for individualised support.
5. Demonstrated capacity to collaboratively develop and implement the strategic directions of the school, and work with executive teams and the broader school community, in the progress and evaluation of these directions, including the collection and management of meaningful data.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
