The Head Teacher leads a diverse HSIE faculty of varying levels of experience within a multicultural school environment of 799 students and 24 Aboriginal students and 654 of our 799 students (82%) are from a language background other than English. The Bass High School serves sections of the Villawood East, Bass Hill, Chester Hill, Carramar, Georges Hall and Yagoona communities. They are an integral member of the executive team that supports the whole school approach to literacy with a focus on reading and vocabulary, leveraging the HSC high impact strategies and developing staff well-being through a positive workplace culture.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Capacity to lead staff through the current curriculum reform agenda to successfully create contemporary teaching and learning programs and high quality evaluative and assessment practices.
- Ability and expertise to dynamically work as a productive member of the executive team to analyse data and to lead, implement and support whole school priorities and initiatives.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to build the capacity of staff to enhance the engagement and wellbeing of students.
- Capacity to work as a collaborative and innovative member of the executive team to implement the school’s strategic improvement plan.
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
