The Role:We are seeking a passionate and highly motivated
Health and Safety Manager, responsible for driving a safety-first culture throughout Squadron Energy (SQE) project sites and operational facilities. Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Environment, this role will be required to manage the ongoing implementation of SQE’s WHS Management system across our Delivery and Operations assets.
Responsibilities include:- Lead, promote, and actively engage with all Operations and Delivery sites and Safety teams to drive SQE’s safety-first culture.
- Ensure that SQE meets its obligations in effectively managing work Health and Safety risks, including having adequate and effective controls and ensuring these are communicated back to the Delivery and Operations teams.
- Establish and implement a fit-for-purpose assurance program to monitor the contractual and legislative requirements of Contractors.
- Monitor and review SQE’s safety management system requirements for Delivery and Operations assets, ensuring key Health and Safety processes are in place and managed (e.g., drugs and alcohol, injury management, health monitoring, fatigue management, hazardous substances, and hazardous manual tasks).
- Analyse and report on SQE’s risks and WHS performance.
- Monitor and report on investigations of all accidents, near misses, and occupational injuries, ensuring actions are recorded and appropriate measures are put in place. Work with Delivery WHS teams to ensure Principal Contractors undertake adequate investigations related to incidents and manage these via Archer.
- Provide advice and recommendations to Construction and Operations teams in relation to WHS performance and compliance.
- Provide input into the tender evaluation and development of contracts relevant to Operations and Delivery divisions to ensure Health and Safety requirements are captured.
- Facilitate the monthly Operations and Delivery WHS review meeting.
- Contribute and provide reporting to the Squadron Energy HSES Committee, attend other Health and Safety meetings as required, monitor adequate coverage of safety professionals across all Construction and Operational assets, and escalate to Head of HSE if required.
- Work with the Corporate Safety and Wellbeing Manager to assist in managing psychosocial risks across SQE, inspire and champion change, challenge the status quo, set the example for achieving high-performance outcomes, create an open, positive environment to stimulate discussion and encourage debate and new ideas, and perform other duties as requested.
Requirements- 10+ years demonstrated functional experience in a similar work Health and Safety role
- Ability to maintain effective and collaborative relationships across diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in the application of relevant legislation governing safety management of construction/high-risk activities.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in providing advice within construction, mining, oil and gas, electricity, manufacturing or similar industries.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in auditing, assurance and investigation.
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgement and problem solving with the ability to resolve and address issues as they arise.
- Demonstrated positive and flexible attitude with a willingness to take on a wide range of diverse tasks and adjust to competing priorities.
- Exemplify personal drive, professionalism and integrity
- Effectively communicate ideas, influence others and think practically, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including liaison and negotiation skills.
- High-level organisation skills including well-developed priority-setting skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Qualifications Required/Desired:
- Diploma in Work Health and Safety or equivalent
- Lead Auditor – Safety Management Systems (desirable)
- Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) or equivalent investigation trained
- White Card
- Driver’s Licence
