The Hunter Valley CHPP ROM Upgrade Project will commence execution in Q2 2024 and aims to increase CHPP throughput by constructing a fit for purpose Run of Mine Coal Handling system. The project will encompass all civil, concrete, mechanical, structural, piping, electrical and instrumentation upgrades required to complete the project for handover to the operational team, whilst ensuring safety is our number one priority.
As a Health and Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, contractors and the environment. Working in the Project team you will collaborate closely with our HSE team to implement and maintain robust Health and Safety practices. This is a full-time fixed term role for 24 months based at Hunter Valley Operations.
Reporting to the ROM Area Manager, you will be a results-oriented person with excellent communication skills who will eagerly accept the many challenges associated with this role.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring provisions of Risk Management and other Safety and Health Management Systems for the project are complied with through a rigorous inspection and observation process plus risk assessments.
- Provide training and support to employees and contractors to promote a culture of safety awareness.
- Accurately observing, understanding, and acting on non-conformances whilst mentoring and demonstrating behaviours that build effective and professional working relationships.
- Monitor and report on Health and Safety performance indicators, working towards continuous improvement.
- Managing and investigating incidents ensuring improvement opportunities are captured and injuries are managed.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation related to Health and Safety activities.
Requirements for the role include:
- 2+ years' experience in a similar role within mining or similar heavy industry.
- Current Health and Safety qualifications.
- Experience in Damstra, Workday and CMO systems.
- Exposure to contractor management and understanding of construction will be considered highly desirable.
