Overview:The
Health Information Officer is accountable to Manager Coding and Health Records for the development, implementation and evaluation of polices, standards and best practice guidelines for clinical coding by co-ordinating relevant projects and providing expert advice to the department, health care units and external clients, that facilitate and support the achievement of government policy in the area of information management.The
Health Information Officer also provides expert technical advice in the area of clinical classification policy development, provision of clinical classification advice, and the coordination, development, provision and evaluation of significant work programs to ensure state wide accurate clinical coded data for:
- Department for Health and Wellbeing central office to develop strategies relating to service improvement, improving health and wellbeing, redistributing resources and improving management.
- Adherence to the South Australia's Health Care Agreement with the Commonwealth and other statutory requirements.
- Research and statistical requirement.
This role will support part-time options for applicants. Options are also available for any applicants who are currently working in clinical coding at public hospitals, who may wish to apply for this role.Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check and appropriate immunisation requirements.Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are encouraged to apply. - Satisfactory completion of the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMMA) coding course together with demonstrated competency in ICD-10-AM coding.
- Intrastate and Interstate travel may be required.
- A current driver's license is essential.
