The Health Promotion Coordinator is part of the Health and Nutrition team. This role is responsible for implementing health promoting activities within the requirements of the tobacco reduction strategy, under the direction of the Health and Nutrition Manager. The position plays a key role in proactively communicating, engaging and educating nutrition and health related campaigns to Indigenous communities and key stakeholders to improve the health of individuals and the community by raising awareness of healthy lifestyles.

We are seeking a person that enjoys remote travel and the challenge that being remote can bring. The role which will be based in Darwin will require travel throughout Outback Stores' network of retail outlets across Northern Territory. You will be a person who is determined to make a difference and you will be able to provide regular feedback and ideas for continuous support and improvement to our business.

We are looking for someone who’s organisation skills will be exceptional and has the ability to form strong bonds with current employees, stake holders, coupled with the passion to want to make a difference in the health of indigenous communities around Australia.

Key Accountabilities:
Health Promotion
• Facilitation of research to support tobacco reduction initiatives and associated project coordination;
• Conduct and utilise research and Health Promotion skills to identify priorities, promote solutions in relation to the health and wellbeing and tobacco reduction for those living in Indigenous communities;
• Support in the development, implementation and evaluation of Indigenous communities’ Health Promotion plan;
• Actively develop effective partnerships and work collaboratively to engage communities and internal and external key stakeholders to enhance Health Promotion activities in an ethical and transparent manner;
• Manage Health Promotion projects, including working within timeframes and budget constraints.
• Respect cultural diversity and traditional Indigenous health practices.

Outback Stores desire our Health Promotion Coordinator, to have a range of skills that are transferable to our team environment, this includes:

• Tertiary qualification in Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Development, Project Management or other relevant discipline.
• Relevant health experience and good knowledge of current Health Promotion practices.
• Hold (or able to obtain) a Working with Children Check and National Police Certificate.
• Current unrestricted driver’s license

• At least two years experience in health promoting or community engagement role;
• Proven experience in dealing with various stakeholders and establishing partnerships with relevant organisations and facilitating collaborative action;
• Experience in working effectively with those of diverse cultural and social backgrounds;
• Willingness and ability to travel to remote communities.
• A strong understanding of contemporary promotion and Indigenous community development;
• Experience in planning, delivering and evaluating complex Health Promotion programs;
• Experience in delivering Health Promotion initiatives including training and development, resources and communications;
• Previous experience working with Indigenous communities and an understanding of Indigenous culture;
• Demonstrated understanding or Health Promotion theory and evidence including needs analysis, project planning and evaluation;
• Demonstrated ability to write high quality reports and other written communication for a variety of audiences.
