About the role:
Reporting to the General Manager of HSE, DON’s National HSE Operations Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring Don’s HSE Strategy and action plans.
You will collaborate with key stakeholders across DON (manufacturing, farms, commercial and offices) to support and drive operations HSE risk reduction and safety culture development.
This role manages a team of 6 HSE Business Partners to reduce risk, ensure compliance and drive engagement in HSE activity.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements, GWF, Don, self-insurance and external certification requirements
- Lead and coordinate the development and implementation of Don’s HSE improvement program including cultural change
- Develop operational HSE plans and assist the business in achieving targets and objectives
- Champion Don’s HSE risk management program including risk assessments, specific improvement programs, incident investigations, auditing
- In conjunction with operations, drive planning and coordination of emergency readiness and business continuity activities including response exercises
- Support Don’s operational and leadership teams on HSE matters, providing coaching and risk management advice to drive risk reduction across all business activities
- Support and enable HSE Business Partners in successful delivery of HSE outcomes

- Detailed knowledge of HSE legislation, industry standards and management system standards (National Audit Tool, ISO45001 & ISO14001)
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in the interpretation and analysis of legislation and audit criteria
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and / or other relevant discipline. Tertiary HSE qualifications highly desirable. Internal audit qualifications welcomed.
- 6 years+ experience of HSE risk management (risk assessment, management systems, incident investigation (ICAM)) in a complex manufacturing environment
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others business stakeholders, legislators, auditors, accreditation bodies and industry experts
- Ability to manage change, prioritise work and manage time
- Experience of managing and developing a medium sized HSE team (preferably across multiple locations)
