- Our Health & Safety Business Partners work across all Council facilities and locations. This role is based out of Strathpine and will be expected to travel throughout the region.
About our opportunity
We're looking for a Health and Safety Business Partner to join our team to contribute to the development and continuous improvement of a proactive safety culture across Council. You will champion all things safety and wellbeing for all team members and coach, support and develop leaders and team members to ensure we continue to improve culture that will make a difference to how work is done.
As a Health and Safety Business Partner and member of the Wellbeing and Safety team you will:
- Identify, develop, and facilitate the implementation of health and safety improvement strategies that support the operationalisation of the corporate H&S Strategy and best practice H&S.
- With a customer focused mindset - build, maintain and continually strengthen relationships with business leaders and front-line employees.
- Partner with business leaders to proactively identify areas of risk and provide regular insights to all levels of the business. This may include trend analysis, interactions, observations, audits and inspections; and identify and recommend systemic improvements arising from the insights.
- Partner with leaders and employees to evaluate the effectiveness of current risk control measures and future risk control measures.
- Train, coach and mentor leaders and team members to interpret, apply and identify systemic improvements in the Safety Management System.
- Facilitate, champion and continually refine the learning processes (i.e. incident learning work insights) that seek to narrow the gap between ‘work as imagined’ and ‘the work as done’.
- Support the local safety practices of front-line teams and participate in risk assessment or hazard identification workshops as required.
About you
You'll be curious and passionate about all things safety, getting out and about to meet people and learn first-hand what the operational risks and challenges are in their job. You'll have experience in health and safety partnering, providing support and advice to internal clients and senior leaders to foster a culture of psychological safety, trust, open communication and learning that drives a constructive culture.

- H&S in High Risk Construction, including comprehensive understanding QLD Legislative Codes of Practice, and the application of regulatory compliance for example to activities such as Heavy Vehicle Chain of Responsibility and Contractor Management
