Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor opportunity

  • $110,000 - $115,000 plus Super depending on experience
  • Full-time, permanent position. Immediate start
  • Eastern Melbourne suburb location

About the role

Our client, an educational establishment, requires an experienced Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor for a permanent opportunity based at their eastern suburb location.

As the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor, you will be responsible for providing advice, guidance and support within the organisation to drive increased safety engagement, culture and compliance. As a member of the Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) unit, you will also provide a range of HSW specialist advice and services of a high professional standard specific to HSW, workers compensation and injury management.

Key Accountabilities

  • Participate in the development and implementation of the HSW Strategy and associated project work, monitoring the progress of HSW activities within business units to ensure completion as scheduled.
  • Develop, implement and maintain business support processes consistent with quality standards and comply with the quality framework, relevant legislation, and timelines, reporting obligations and policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate hazard identification and risk management activities to identify hazards and evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of risk control measures to ensure continuous improvement is being achieved.
  • Provide accurate and prompt technical expertise, advice and support regarding HSW matters to internal and external stakeholders, including HSW Committee members, management, employees and students.
  • Develop and implement early intervention injury management and proactive return to work strategies for workers with work related and non-work related injuries and illnesses.
  • Fulfill the role of Return to Work Coordinator for the organisation. This involves performing all day to day duties related to the management of workers compensation claims and return to work planning; and monitor progress against return to work goals and objectives.

Experience and Expertise

  • Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Knowledge & Experience: Broad range of specialist experience in providing client-focussed, high quality advice and support to managers and employees at all levels.
  • Sound working knowledge of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act legislation framework, practices and procedures.
  • Internal Consultancy Skills: Demonstrated knowledge and experience including the ability to clarify needs and expectations of clients, develop practical solutions by applying HSW capability and expertise in providing HSW services of high standards.
  • Risk Management: Demonstrated experience in risk management activities including identification, evaluation and prioritisation of risks and facilitate consultation to decrease residual risk and increase awareness of HSW compliance and best practice.
  • Injury & Operational Management: Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing early intervention strategies to positively influence claims culture and return to work outcomes for work and non-work related injuries.
  • Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders, while working collaborative with the HSW Team. Excellent communication skills including the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (tertiary qualifications preferred) or equivalent relevant qualification
  • WorkSafe Victoria approved Return to Work Coordinator training.
  • First Aid Certificate - HLTAID004 or equivalent training and/or experience.
