About the role
In this role, you will facilitate best practice heritage management within the City of Greater .  Your primary responsibility will be to prepare new heritage assessments or citations for the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme, based on a prioritised list of places identified in the 1998-2000 Geelong Outer Areas Study, with opportunity to provide input into the development of heritage guidelines and policies.

The project is a 12 month contract working an average of 2 days per week, with the opportunity to work additional days up to the end of June 2024.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Review heritage overlays within the municipality with a focus on the outstanding recommendations of the Geelong Outer Areas study, undertaking the assessment of historical heritage significance, stakeholder consultation, preparation of citations and supporting heritage overlay documentation as required.
  • Support the development of urban design frameworks, strategic and growth area plans, heritage guidelines, policies and planning scheme amendments, through the identification and analysis of heritage issues and constraints, and formulation of advice as to heritage management requirements and opportunities;
  • Respond to internal and external enquiries on heritage issues, including the preparation of correspondence, reports and briefing papers as required.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have experience in heritage management within an Australian context and An understanding of heritage legislation.

Essential Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a heritage-related field, including but not limited to cultural heritage management, history, archaeology, architecture, landscape architecture, historical geography, and collections management.
  • Demonstrated experience in heritage management within an Australian context, preferably inclusive of the significance assessment of places and the provision of advice which delivers sustainable outcomes that balance conservation with environmental, social and economic needs.
  • Highly developed research and analytical skills.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, negotiation and mediation skills.
  • An understanding of heritage legislation, practices and guidelines applicable to the City.
