About the role:
The HV Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of High Voltage systems, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our products. This position requires a strong background in electrical engineering, particularly in the design and testing of High Voltage components and systems. The ideal candidate will be passionate about pushing the boundaries of innovation and will thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Spearhead the design of 22kV and above substations, overseeing layout, equipment selection, and material choices for optimal performance.
- Conduct intricate electrical calculations including load flow, fault levels, and protection coordination, ensuring system reliability and efficiency.
- Proven track record of successful grid connections within Australia with diverse generation technologies.
- Thorough understanding of the generator connection process in Australia (Chapter 5 and 5A) and the obligations of each party (NSPs, AEMO, Proponent etc).
- Knowledgeable in one or more generator technologies such as synchronous (steam, hydro, gas etc) or asynchronous (solar PV, wind, BESS etc).
- Technical skills in the areas of: electrical schematic development, SCADA mapping tables, cables schedules, relay configuration, protection set point calculations, and power systems modelling.
- Provide concept and detailed design of protection schemes from high level R&I diagrams, detailed schematics, through to protection settings.
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Proven experience in the design and development of High Voltage systems, with a wealth of relevant industry experience.
- Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design (e.g., AutoCAD, Altium Designer) and simulation tools (e.g., ETAP, PowerCAD).
- Strong understanding of High Voltage safety standards and regulations (e.g., IEEE, IEC, NEC).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Highly organized with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with project management methodologies and tools is a plus.
