Your new role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Horticulturalist to join our vibrant and creative Operations and Maintenance team.  This position is responsible for the presentation of the University’s public realm through the creation of a beautiful environment. You will complete horticultural assignments and documentation under the direction of the Senior Horticulturalist, ensuring that general horticulture duties are performed to a high standard, which include planting, pruning, fertilising, cleaning and maintenance of ponds and waterways, and controlling weeds including chemical application.

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive plant knowledge accompanied with excellent attention to detail, passion in your work and high levels of motivation.

We are looking for (the ideal candidate):
  • Certificate III Horticulture and knowledge, training or experience relevant to the duties to be performed, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use, repair and maintenance of 2/4 stroke machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and work appropriately and effectively with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team or autonomously as required.
  • Ability to identify weeds and pests and knowledge of materials (e.g. chemicals and hand tools).
  • Demonstrated resilience and the ability to cope effectively with pressure and sustain high levels of effort and energy together with the ability to accept changes in priorities and adapt quickly to the changes.
  • Experience in applying basic computing skills (Microsoft Office Word and Excel) and completing relevant documentation.
  • A proactive approach to workplace safety.
  • C-A Class license is required, however manual is preferred.
As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered. Only in limited situations will visa sponsorship situations be considered.
