We are proudly producers of succulent plums, persimmons, peaches, apples, pears and various other fruits to supermarkets and independent outlets across eastern Australia and internationally.
Job description
We are offering the position of Horticulture Technical Officer to help us on research and production of our orchards farm located at 482 Campbell Rd, Cobram VIC 3644. The successful candidate will be reporting to the General Manager and working closely with other team members and other stakeholders within the business.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan and coordinate activities involved in selecting, ordering, and planting seedlings, including careful selection of crop seedlings, ordering from nurseries, preparing fields for sowing and transplanting, and directing and scheduling these activities with consideration for weather conditions, soil suitability, and plant health;
• Ensure optimal crop production through timely fertilization, pest monitoring, and harvest management, while maintaining irrigation systems and water quality, and implementing care and inspection practices throughout the growing season;
• Maintain farm equipment and machinery;
• Attend to the harvest schedule, harvest techniques and post-harvest handling;
• Organise and record production cycle and plan activities according to the work schedule and crop growth planning;
• Analyse soil quality by undertaking soil testing, crop rotation, incorporation of green manure and composted products;
• Select and manage the use of chemicals, meeting Australian standards and obligations for safe use of agrichemicals permitted.
• Advise producers on farming technics and management.
Skills Required
• Tertiary qualification in agriculture, horticulture or similar;
• 2+ years of experience in a similar role;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Good time management and planning skills to work in a challenging and fast paced environment;
• Competent English;
Working Arrangements:
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $73,000 to $76,000 per year plus superannuation
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends may be required
