  • Understand, design, construct, and operate a range of aquaculture culture systems for algae, live feeds, bivalves, crustaceans and fish.
  • Support and monitor culture-systems' operations, maintenance, and animal welfare.
  • Assist project leaders with data collection and collation, preparation of project reports, extension articles, media releases, and technical notes arising from project outputs.
  • Assist project leaders with developing and maintaining effective relationships with industry and stakeholders and facilitate resources for field expeditions.
  • Support project leaders with procurement of materials and resources.
  • Manage technical and maintenance aspects of the BIRC laboratories, including safety inductions, chemical management, and equipment safety protocols and servicing schedules.
  • Oversee WHS, including facility safety inspections, risk assessments, safe work practices, and standard operating procedures.
Requirements

You will bring

  • At least five-years' experience of relevant practical and technical experience, preferably in the aquaculture industry
  • A minimum of a Diploma or Associate Diploma in Applied Science, Aquaculture, Fisheries Science or equivalent, but a relevant degree in science from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent academic qualification is desirable
  • The ability to be rostered on weekends and outside normal business hours
  • An understanding of the aquaculture industry in Queensland and/or Northern Australia is desirable.
  • Laboratory skills and chemical management experience is desirable. You will have a keen eye for detail, great time management and effective problem-skilling skills. More than anything, you will have a positive attitude and make a great contribution to our close-knit and connected team.
