In keeping with the goals of the Victorian suicide prevention framework 2016-25, the Northern HOPE service aims to build resilience in individuals who have made a suicide attempt by providing intensive and individualised therapeutic care and psychosocial support.
The Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Mental Health Clinician (Grade 2 Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Psychologist or Grade 3 Registered Psychiatric Nurse) to join the Hospital Outreach Post-Suicidal Engagement (HOPE) team at Northern Health part time 3 days a week until 15/4/2024. Please note, there is potential for permanent appointment for interested applicants.
The Northern HOPE service is a multidisciplinary team and each client will be allocated a Psychosocial Support Worker and Mental Health Clinician to deliver practical support and evidence based therapeutic interventions to address the unique social, economic, historical and environmental factors that have contributed to, or continue to contribute to, a person's suicidality.
This role requires support to clients for a period of 12 weeks, providing assertive and coordinated care post-discharge. Engagement will take place via both outreach and clinic based therapeutic interventions to reduce the risk of suicide re-attempts and deaths by suicide.
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team with the ability to effectively communicate with senior clinicians, community development workers and lived experience workers cohesively.
  • Skills in therapeutic engagement with people with complex mental health disorders using evidence-based approaches (motivational interviewing/ narrative therapy/CBT/ solution focused interventions).
  • Skills in psychosocial assessments, integrated casework service and Wellness and Recovery Planning with consumers and their families.
  • Expertise in identifying and engaging with key welfare, health and other support agencies and working collaboratively to improve consumer's outcomes and recovery.
  • Skills in working with -cultural and linguistic diversity.
Desirable
  • Skills in risk assessment, and safety planning for vulnerable and risk children and young persons and people experiencing family violence.
  • Skills in family sensitive and inclusive practices such as Single Session Family Consultation and family / carer support and counselling.
