Job description

This is a House coordination role. Female persons experienced in working with persons having complex behavioral problems, high physical care supports are highly encouraged to apply.

  • Persons with complex behavioral problems.

Duty Statement

• Provide leadership to the team acting as a positive role model at all times.
• Must have good organizational skills and attention to detail, proven supervisory skills and be capable of working flexible hours covering direct shifts.
• Experience with Word, spreadsheets and database management applications.
• Plan, implement and evaluate recreation and leisure activities with participants and staff.
• Manage roster on a daily basis by allocating tasks to the team members.
• Lead the shift, ensuring staff give support that follows individual’s care plans and daily support plans.
• Provide effective supervision to the Seniors and Support Workers on your team.

  • Work alongside persons with complex behavioral problems.
  • Provide practical assistance to people while they are developing or recovering their independent living skills promoting optimal client choice and control.
  • Be able to work independently and manage complex behaviors.
  • Worker should be able to drive and should have a vehicle of their own.
  • Work alongside people in all phases of their recovery journey.
  • Work with people to access services and activities in the community.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure continuity and consistency of support to residents.
  • Adhere to administrative procedures including data collection and maintenance of resident records.
  • Attend internal and external meetings and staff training.
  • Support and assist clients with personal care, home care, personal support, domestic assistance, washing, meal preparation, cleaning, social support and respite.
  • Assisting clients to have the opportunity to develop and maintain skills, capacities, and lifestyles that are valued in the community.
  • Providing direct care for clients and having knowledge of client’s individual needs and preferences.
  • Assisting client in all aspects of personal care as needed.
  • Escort clients on private or public transport as required.
  • Responding to directions from clients, listening to client needs, and respecting each client’s right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality in all aspects of their life.
  • Understanding client’s legal rights and staff responsibilities in accordance with those rights (such as Human Rights, Equal Opportunity, Anti-Discrimination etc).
  • Promoting the abilities, contribution, and competence of people with a disability.
  • Maintaining a strong client focus in all situations.
  • Promoting the goals and objectives of Haven Care Australia Pty Ltd to all clients and the community at large. Implementing Haven Care Australia Pty Ltd’s service policies and monitoring and reviewing work practices and the application of policy (such as WHS) to ensure maximum client consultation, participation and independence.
  • Provide health support and first aid as required to clients.
  • Report any requested changes by the clients and/or carer in relation to services and/or care needs to Client service coordinator.
  • Undertake on the job training as required.
  • other duties from time to time, as bounded by the spirit of this document, as may be directed by the Director, Clinical Services Manager or Area Service coordinator.

Requirements for Appointment

The successful applicant must have:

  • A minimum Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mental Health/ Disability/ Welfare/ Mental Health Peer work, Community services or equivalent.
  • A current Working with Vulnerable People Card (ACT)
  • A valid National Police Check (issued within 12-month period) or willing to undergo a National Police Check
  • A completed first aid certificate and to be completed Mental Health First Aid within the probationary period.
  • A current Drivers Licence, be able to drive and have a car.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A minimum Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mental Health/ Disability/ Welfare/ Mental Health Peer work, Community services or equivalent Experience, knowledge and skills of working with people experiencing mental illness within a residential setting is highly desirable with a minimum of 12 months experience in the relevant field.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and build relationships with individuals, carers and families based on mutual respect and trust.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills and interpersonal, combined with a proactive and hands on attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to cooperate closely with team members in order to ensure continuity of care and provision of a comprehensive service to participants as well as take instructions from supervisors.
  • A reliable, punctual and mature attitude with demonstrated ability to work with limited direct supervision.
  • An understanding of the importance of personal and professional boundaries, privacy and confidentiality, ethical behaviour, policies and procedures.

Desirable

  1. Minimum 1 year’s work experience in mental health (preferably in a residential setting), drug and alcohol, youth work or managing challenging behaviour or 1 year experience working with clients who had high physical need supports.
  2. Understanding of and capacity to interpret and apply relevant standards and legislation (including NSMHS, recovery principles, psycho-social Recovery principles).
  3. Knowledge of NDIS.
