About Us
Robert Menzies College is an Anglican residential college which provides accommodation for approximately 300 students mainly attending Macquarie University. During university vacation periods, the College provides conference accommodation to a range of groups.
This position is critical for the effective operation of the College as a community that cares for students as they transition from school to the workplace, through the process of obtaining tertiary qualifications in a College environment. The position requires a heart for those they work with and serve daily.
The Role
This hands-on role is responsible for coordinating the cleaning and housekeeping functions throughout the College. Also, the role of the Conference Host is responsible for helping in the smooth execution of the incoming conferences. This is a full-time role generally requiring work on-site 5 days per week on a 7-day roster.
Duties
The person for this role will:
• Ensure external cleaning contractor compliance with cleaning contract, scope of works and schedule.
• Manage a team of casual housekeeping workers making sure tasks are completed on time and comply with College standard.
• Ensure that all bedrooms are cleaned and remade when residents/guests check-out.
• Converse with residents to work towards solving problems they are experiencing with cleaning in College.
• Monitor residents’ hygiene practices and completing checks on those who do not meet our standards of hygiene.
• Monitor linen stock and ordering linen weekly accordingly.
• Monitor stock of all cleaning supplies and toilet paper, and place orders when necessary.
• Be prepared to personally perform cleaning or housekeeping tasks where necessary.
• Allocate conference guests to suitable rooms, once provided with information of conference booking.
• Assign contractors and casual housekeepers to prepare the conference rooms and monitor the work when completed.
• Assist in the check-in process and managing any room changes if required.
• Address concerns and resolve issues the conference group may have whilst staying on site.
• Set up and organise facilities in the conference rooms.
• Work with the Maintenance/Housekeeping team to ensure the pack down (after the event).
What we need from you
The person is required to possess attributes and display an attitude fitting the Christian ethos of the College.
We are seeking a person who:
- Has attention to detail especially regarding cleanliness of rooms and execution of conference procedures.
- Has excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Has the ability to work collaboratively with contractors and staff, has excellent interpersonal skills and be emotionally intuitive.
- Has effective communication skills - being proactive with residents, conference groups and internal staff.
- Is not afraid to draw boundaries when it is not within the deliverables.
- Is computer literate to process requests via electronic devices.
- Is available to vary working hours to suit periodic busy time periods.
