Job description

Vinnies Housing Plus provides a variety of medium-term housing options in the greater Perth and Mandurah area for families and young people who face barriers accessing housing and are willing to engage and have the capacity to meet tenancy responsibilities. 

Our flexible tenancy management model is person centred, strength based and offers the capacity to manage tenancies on a case by case basis. This enables Vinnies Housing Plus to offer a safe, secure and supportive environment that enables tenants to engage with their external support workers and plan for their long-term housing goals.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Housing Plus, the Housing Officer is responsible for the day to day provision of tenancy and property support including inspections, maintenance coordination, record management, data entry and other housing related activities. 

This role relates to tenancies within the Society’s Community Housing portfolio inclusive of homelessness services, youth and adult accommodation and mental health services. 

  • Permanent Full-time position - (38hrs/week)
  • Location will be the Vincentian Village (Woodbridge)

This is a dynamic role with no two days the same. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensures that all properties are maintained in a cost-effective, safe and habitable condition to support excellence in service delivery for tenants as per budget requirements
  • Coordinates maintenance requests and supports the implementation of scheduled and long-term maintenance programs to provide a safe and compliant environment
  • Completes comprehensive entry and exit Property Condition Reports and ensures on- charging of damage costs to tenants as required
  • Contributes to Mental Health Housing compliance processes as required
  • Contributes to ensuring the financial viability of the Community Housing program by; timely on charging of relevant costs to tenants; conducting regular reviews of property outgoings; and undertaking continuing eligibility and rent reviews biannually for each tenancy and action outcomes in a timely manner 
  • Contributes to the selection, allocation, establishment, maintaining and ending of tenancies in accordance with organisational mission, policy and procedures and funding body program specifications

Key to the success of this position is that tenants are provided with a quality customer experience, delivered in a professional manner that meets their expectations.


About You:

To succeed in this role and with Vinnies WA, you must be driven by service excellence and a sense of working for the greater good. You take a ‘hands-on’ approach to your work, with a strong focus on customer service. Our expectations are that you have:

  • Relevant qualification or equivalent experience working within the community housing sector and/or tenancy management services
  • An understanding of social and community housing principles and experience dealing with complex and challenging property management issues and complex and challenging tenancy issues
  • Enact values consistent with low barrier and trauma informed care approaches, with the capacity to translate this into work practices on a day to day basis.
  • An understanding of the Housing First principles of the Supportive Landlord Model and Framework.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work and liaise with specialised support services and organise/participate in multi-agency case management meetings
  • Experience and proficiency in Chintaro, Zavanti or other property management databases (desired);
  • Demonstrate knowledge and capacity to implement the Residential Tenancy Act 1987 and other relevant legislative requirements, sector guidelines and policies;
  • Strong written and verbal communication and data management skills;
  • Experience working with people with complex needs including mental health, disability, homelessness, substance use and/or financial disadvantage – particularly within a community or residential sector setting is desirable.
