People Branch offers a flexible and dynamic working environment, where we collaborate across teams to deliver outcomes and grow our skills.The Professional Standards and Wellbeing team manages PM&C’s Workplace Health and Safety Management System, Wellbeing case management and Professional Standards case management, incorporating underperformance, probation and complaints and grievance management. We are a collaborative and dynamic team that works in partnership with key stakeholders across the agency to prevent harm, promote wellbeing, and support the integrity, performance and engagement of PM&C’s workforce.What you will doWe are looking for a Work Health and Safety professional to join our team, to support the physical and psychological safety of the PM&C workforce.In this role you will contribute to PM&C’s workplace safety systems, helping to manage our core business of risk assessment and governance, with the opportunity to engage in a range of initiatives to promote physical and psychological safety in the workplace.Key responsibilities:
  • Work independently and with high-level direction to deliver Workplace Health and Safety initiatives for PM&C.
  • Support the Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) and First Aid Officer Networks, and the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee.
  • Undertake WHS inspections and Risk Assessments and respond to incidents and hazards in the workplace.
  • Engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver positive WHS outcomes.
  • Draft, review and maintain policies, procedures and strategies to support the Work Health Safety Management System (WHSMS) and deliver outcomes for People Branch and the broader Department
  • Collaborate across People Branch with HR colleagues to design and develop practical and innovative HR solutions, in line with legislation and best practice.
  • Manage project work under limited direction of your manager.
  • Draft reports, briefs and updates for the Executive.
  • Provide high quality, accurate and consistent advice, maintaining high-level customer service and relationships with stakeholders.
A merit pool may be established and used to fill the same or similar vacancies for 18 months from the date of advertising.What you will bringWe are seeking a motivated WHS or HR professional with demonstrated capability in risk management, stakeholder engagement and collaborative approaches.Your ability to understand, interpret and positively communicate regarding WHS concerns, and apply relevant legislation and scheme guidance will be highly regarded.Our ideal candidate will have:
  • A familiarity with the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011, and its application in the Commonwealth jurisdiction, or the ability to gain familiarity quickly and effectively.
  • Sound judgement, strong attention to detail and the flexibility to deal with competing priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, which will allow them to provide a high level of customer service and advice, and to engage effectively with stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and levels of seniority
  • Well-developed organisational abilities
  • A people-centric approach to their work, by tailoring advice and solutions to our client’s needs
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and self-directed.
WHS qualifications and experience will be highly regarded.Eligibility

, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing. At PM&C to be eligible for this position you should be an Australian Citizen at the closing date of application, unless exceptional circumstances apply. * The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
  • The successful candidate will be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check, and will normally be subject to a six-month probation period if new to the APS or has not yet completed their probation period elsewhere in the APS.
