Location Profile

Organisational Environment 

The Department of Education leads the delivery of education and development services to children, young people and adults both directly through government schools and indirectly through the regulation and funding of early childhood services, non-government schools and training programs. 

Schools Human Resources Division (SHRD) provides school workforce supply and demand strategies and initiatives, supports the attraction and retention of teachers in Victorian government schools, provides high quality school HR and recruitment services, and provides policy and employee relations advice. Schools Human Resource Division:

 ¿ supports the Schools workforce and provides consultancy services and client support in the areas of payroll and staff administration, recruitment and HR data analysis and reporting 

 ¿ provides HR services of recruitment, payroll and reporting support to external clients. 

The following requirements are unique to roles within Schools HR Services Branch:

 ¿ knowledge of and adherence to the department zero tolerance approach to fraudulent and corrupt conduct as it may relate to human resource policies and practices, including personal vigilance and prompt escalation of issues that may require attention and/or follow up 

¿ knowledge of and adherence to the department Information Privacy policy as it relates to human resource policies and practices including prompt escalation of issues that may require action

 ¿ it is expected that SHRD staff actively seek opportunities for professional learning and development and that they incorporate these learnings into their daily work as a way of optimising performance and motivating others.

Role

The Schools HR Services unit supports the Department of Education's teaching services workforce in government schools and non-school locations in the areas of Payroll, HR advisory and HR systems. 

The role is based in our Melbourne CBD office. 

To be successful in this role, you will be solution and client focused and can be relied on your problem-solving skills, influence and negotiating skills. 

Your capacity to establish and maintain productive relationships within the department will be vital. 

The role will support a team and your client cohort in the delivery of a range of HR operational function.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities 

HR support services and advice:

 ¿ As part of a small team of Consultants, ensure that high-quality HR operational advice and support is delivered to schools and regional workforces in a timely manner 

¿ As part of an expert team, develop skills and disseminate knowledge on a particular payroll administration subject matter 

¿ Undertake research/investigation to respond to HR related enquiries 

¿ Participate and actively contribute to a range of HR project deliverables aimed at maintaining the integrity of a large payroll system and improving the overall quality of service delivery to schools and regions 

¿ Support the team in planning and organising a range of HR and administrative activities including induction of new staff.

 Payroll administration 

¿ Take a lead in resolving complex payroll issues 

¿ Verify and quality assure core payroll data. HR policy, agreement and strategy implementation 

¿ Assist in the implementation of complex HR system and process changes 

¿ Provide information and advice to managers and staff on changes to relevant HR policies/guidelines and practices.

This position is located at 35 Collins Street Melbourne

There is an additional attendance requirement of 30 days per year
