Job description

SciDev is a leader in environmental solutions focused on water-intensive industries. Our solutions allow clients to reuse water, improve operational efficiencies and reduce their environmental footprints. We deliver world-leading chemistry and water treatment technology with end-to-end support from our specialist scientists and engineers.

We are currently looking for a capable and proactive HSE Manager to partner with our business units across Australia and internationally. 

Reporting to the CEO, this role will guide and contribute to the implementation of our strategic approach to HSE management across our projects and operations.  It will be the company focal point for all HSE matters within the scope of our certified integrated management system.

The role provides a unique opportunity for the right person to drive HSE performance at a strategic and operational level by engaging with stakeholders of all levels within our business, from executive team to workshop floor, using a collaborative approach to tackle the unique challenges that our operations bring and maintain our core value of “Everyone safe, everyday”.  The role is based primarily at Seven Hills, Sydney with a blend of site travel and flexible working (Work from home).


Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identify, develop, implement and provide leadership of robust health, safety and environment strategic and tactical initiatives that are tailored to the unique challenges of SciDev’s size and business verticals, including areas of critical risk.
  • Develop and maintain key HSE related policies.
  • Provide Leadership, guidance and advice on HSE-related matters to all levels of the business in a manner that meets the needs of all personnel involved.
  • Contribute to and, where necessary, facilitate/lead risk assessments at management, project and site level
  • Develop relationships and influence with stakeholders at all levels to integrate HSE integration into core operational practices.
  • Steward the SciDev integrated management system including compliance/assurance activities, data analysis and key activities such as internal audit, central risk registers and facilitation of management review.
  • Maintain awareness of changes and updates to legislation, codes and key standards and communicate to relevant stakeholders.
  • Analyse lead and lag indicator trends with associated actions
  • Development/implementation of annual HSE improvement plan.
  • Liaise with other SciDev departments as required by business needs.
  • Maintain, communicate and ensure delivery of SciDev emergency and crisis response protocols including periodic testing and sharing of learnings.
  • Prepare and report on monthly HSE statistics.
  • Act as key focal point for external regulatory bodies and relevant certification assessment bodies
  • Lead HSE incident investigations with a focus that they are comprehensive in addressing root causes whilst maintaining a fair and professional approach throughout.
  • Address queries and provide support to clients as required.

What the successful candidate will bring to the role:

  • Minimum Diploma WHS 
  • Proven experience in HSE management within heavy industry (Minimum 8 years in similar role)
  • Strategic HSE vision
  • A genuine passion for both steering direction at Senior Management level and interacting meaningfully with those at the worksite
  • Strong working knowledge of construction safety, dangerous goods and NHVR chain of responsibility legislation
  • Well-developed EQ, influence and relationship management skills
  • A collaborative approach
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Data analysis and presentation skills (MS Office)
  • Lead Auditor, Training/Assessment and ICAM or TapRoot qualifications desirable.
