Job description

Reporting to CCH COO, the HSEQ Manager - CCH is responsible for performing the delivery of integrated HSEQ management systems and processes within the CCH business segment to build a mature safety culture, influencing positive safety behaviours to prevent harm and achieve organisational objectives.

The HSEQ Manager is fundamental in assisting the CCH leadership team to develop, manage and monitor the HSEQ performance of CCH. The role is responsible for performing the delivery of diverse and contemporary health, safety environment and quality approaches and practices within the civil construction and hire arm of the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the HSEQ function within the CCH business segment to ensure HSEQ management systems and practices meet legislative requirements, ISO accreditation and align to industry best practice.
  • Implementation of HSEQ systems in CCH in accordance with MGH corporate objectives.
  • Responsible for CCH’s HSEQ processes and procedures to ensure the Company maintains its accreditations (AS/ISO 9001, AS/ISO14001, AS/ISO 45001) including Maas Civil tri accreditation and meets MGH Group standards and objectives.
  • Responsible for management of and liaison with HSEQ auditors to acquire/maintain CCH’s accreditations.
  • Highly collaborative role engaging with all levels of the organisation to achieve strategic objectives. Provide expert HSEQ knowledge and coaching to key stakeholders to support the implementation of CCH and MGH corporate HSEQ plans and priorities.
  • Support and coach project-based Project Managers and WHSE advisors to ensure projects are delivered in line with legislative, ISO and client requirements.
  • Deliver tailored HSEQ advice and support across legislation, policies processes to influence better practice HSEQ performance and outcomes.
  • Consult with the Group WHS Manager to recommend solutions to trends and issues affecting the business in line with MGH core values and vision.
  • Conduct and participate in audits, workplace inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, training initiatives and other health, safety, environment and quality related functions.
  • Liaise with and maintain professional working relationships with regulatory bodies.
  • Assist management to resolve HSEQ related issues, complaints or concerns.
  • Collate and report on CCH’s HSEQ performance to the CCH leadership team, statutory authorities as/when required and MGH, including analysing performance data.
  • Maintain a high level of HSEQ competency applicable to CCH’s diverse operations.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving industry HSEQ regulations and best practice and how they could be applied to CCH’s operations.
  • Respectfully challenge team members with a mindset of best practice and continuous improvement.

Knowledge and experience required:

  • The role requires a comprehensive knowledge and understanding in WHS Legislation (Acts, Regulations and Codes of Practice), AS/ISO 9001, AS/ISO 14001, AS/ISO45001, Risk Management.
  • Knowledge and technical skills in risk management from their extensive work experience as a qualified specialist; and experience the development and implementation of HSEQ management systems.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar HSEQ role preferred
  • Diploma of WHS or related discipline and sound knowledge of associated HSE legislation, regulations and standards. Relevant and / or equivalent industry experience will be considered.
  • Experience working on major construction projects is highly regarded.
  • Strong stakeholder management experience, with the ability to build relationships and influence people at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to engage cross functional departments with a common purpose, exerting influence and motivating individuals.
  • Ability to effectively engage subject matter experts and understand technical topics.
  • Experience in working in a high-performance team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Full working rights within Australia.

The HSEQ Manager - CCH is a permanent, full-time position that can be located at one of our Regional or city based offices in the Eastern States of Australia; Dubbo, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne or Brisbane offices, however must be available for regular intrastate and interstate travel.
