Job description

As Human Resource, Payroll andWork Health & Safety Coordinator, you are responsible for processing payroll, remitting payroll taxes and reporting. You will be required run the OH&S committee and chair meetings accordingly.  Manage all Workcover claims, liaise with insurance companies, injured workers and providers. The position will require great attention to detail, excellent organisation and communication skills, have a solid grasp of mathematics and HR/Payroll/Recruitment systems. This position will also be exposed to confidential information thus a high degree of professionalism and discretion is a must.

Conditions of employment covered by the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2018.  Salary range starting at $47.33 per hour. Option to salary package a maximum of $15,999 from your gross salary each year; 5 weeks pro rata annual leave per year; and a  35-hour week. Skills and experience

 Key responsibilities

  • Prepare & process end to end fortnightly payroll for 130-150 staff, including payroll discrepancies;
  • Month end processing including superannuation, PAYG tax and reporting;
  • Participate in financial/payroll audits;
  • Coordinate and manage Workers Compensation claims;
  • Coordinate injury management and early intervention initiatives;
  • Maintain HR, Recruitment and Payroll systems;
  • Assist and resolve team member and some management queries;
  • Support the development, update, review and implementation of HR and HHS policies, procedures and projects;
  • Coordinate recruitment end to end process;
  • Coordinate Performance and Probation reviews;
  • Maintain employee records and Training registers;
  • Identify training needs and coordinate training with external providers (including sourcing available grants & funding opportunities);
  • Review work conditions to ensure legal compliance;
  • Maintain compliance requirements across internal processes;
  • Produce reports and analytics for Senior HR Manager, CEO, CFO and programs;
  • Maintain Incident Register for all business units;
  • Support Managers and staff to document incidents, undertake Risk Assessments, investigations and follow-up actions;
  • Maintain Hazard Register, follow-up actions and provide reports for Senior Management
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Maintain respect for Larrakia people and traditional country; 
  • Ensure best practice of OH&S and guidelines are followed.

Selection Criteria

  • .A knowledge of Aboriginal culture and the issues affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory.
  • Sound working background in the end-to-end payroll function including identifying and resolving discrepancies in timesheets and payroll records.
  • Demonstrated Award interpretation experience for accurate calculations.  Knowledge and understanding of FairWork and relevant legislation.
  • Extensive experience in recruitment processes and procedures.  
  • High level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, high attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to interact with a wide cross-section of people (particularly Aboriginal).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the legislative framework governing workplace health and safety and Workers' compensation in the NT and the proven ability to apply that knowledge to implement effective WHS systems, risk management approaches and other initiatives in the workplace.
  • Proven success in delivering coaching, training and/or informative presentations to managers, supervisors and/or staff regarding health, safety and wellbeing.
  • A fundamental understanding of competency-based training and assessment and e-learning.
  • Relevant qualifications in Human Resource and/or employee relations or extensive experience (>5 years).

It would be considered an advantage if applicants also possess:

  • Identify as Indigenous.
  • Hold or completing a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or equivalent.
  • Tertiary Qualification in WHS and/ or significant experience in WHS related roles.
