Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW
Independent Chair
The Energy and Water Ombudsman NSW (EWON) is a not-for-profit, industry-based ombudsman scheme that provides free and independent dispute resolution services to all NSW energy and some water customers. It seeks to achieve fair and reasonable outcomes for all parties.
NSW electricity, gas and water networks and retailers must be members of EWON. EWON is funded by member fees and governed by a Board of Directors. This Board is made up of five Industry Directors, from the electricity, gas and water provider members and five Community Directors from various community organisations.
We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced Chairs to take the role of Independent Chair from October 2024. Candidates should demonstrate the following experience:
• Strength of leadership and considerable experience in chairing governance boards, ideally gained from similar for-purpose, social justice, regulatory or integrity bodies, or public sector related organisations.
• Familiarity with the dynamics of representative boards and keen commitment to independence.
• The capacity to bring strategic oversight to the work of the Board and EWON.
• Strong financial acumen, sound judgement, high integrity and alignment to the values of EWON.
• The ability to commit the necessary time to the role and take on committee work (approximately 3-4 days a month in total).
The ability to provide independent corporate governance is preferred over energy and water industry expertise. The role is remunerated.
