Who are we?
Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.
We are focused on acute care, immunisation, chronic disease management, women's health, mens health, child and maternal health, sexual health, and social emotional wellbeing.
We also provide a range of community programs in areas including health promotion, mental health/social and emotional wellbeing, and alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
About the role
The Indigenous Allied Health Assistant (IAHA) works closely with the DDHS Allied Health team and DDHS clients to ensure clients understand their diagnosis and can access services and supports that are culturally appropriate.
As an IAHA you will provide regular client updates to the Allied Health delegate to help them support clients in receiving the most suitable and effective care, along with reinforcing and educating clients to utilise the Allied Health professional recommendations.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out clinical support tasks for clients, under the supervision of the delegating Allied Health professional in clinics, outreach clinics, client homes and community settings.
- Assist with facilitating and coordinating group programs under the supervision of an Allied Health professional, including facilitation of Shared Medical Appointments, including transporting clients to and from activities.
- Support the use and provision of appropriate aids, equipment, and resources, as delegated by the treating Allied Health professional.
- Provide timely feedback to Allied Health professionals regarding client therapy and report any client changes promptly to minimise potential adverse effects. The IAHA is not responsible for making clinical assessments of judgments.
- Work collaboratively with clients, families, and carers to ensure therapy and supports are client-centred and culturally sensitive.
- Maintain accurate client records.
To be successful you will need:
- Demonstrated organisational skills to prioritise workload and complete activities independently and can seek assistance when required.
- 2 years or more of previous experience working in a client-focused support role within a confidential environment.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Intermediate computer literacy with the ability to learn multiple health system
- NT Drivers licence and driver history record.
Desirable
- Completion of Certificate III Allied Health Assistant (or equivalent qualification), or willingness to undertake training.
- Experience working in the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector.
