About this role
The NSW Public Health Training Program is recognised for the training of medical graduates towards Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine. Current and prospective Public Health Medicine Advanced Training Program trainees are encouraged to apply.

Trainees gain advanced level experience in all aspects of Public Health policy and practice through supervised work placements as part of the NSW Public Health Training Program. Several traineeships are available to commence in August 2024.

Remuneration: Crown Clerk Grade 9/10, starting salary from $120,859 - $133,183 p.a. (plus superannuation and annual leave loading)
Hours per week: 35
Location: St Leonards

Where you'll be working
You will undertake supervised work placements in a range of locations within the NSW health system. You may be offered the opportunity to complete a rural placement, however most work placements are within the Sydney metropolitan area.

What you'll be doing 
You will provide expert medical advice and complete projects and activities that support the application of evidence-based research in all aspects of Public Health policy and practice, in order to meet organisational priorities. The role forms part of the Public Health emergency surge capacity for NSW Health during Public Health incidents and aims to build the capacity of the population health workforce in NSW.

About you 
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals that: 

  • hold full general medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • hold a masters or doctoral degree in Public Health or a Public Health field
  • have a minimum of three years of full-time equivalent health related employment, including at least two years of clinical experience.

  5. evidence of your right to work in Australia for the duration of the traineeship (e.g. Australian or New Zealand passport or Australian birth certificate, citizenship certificate, or permanent residency visa). You must provide this even if you were born in Australia and/or you are a current NSW Health employee


If your application does not include all of these attachments, you will not be considered for interview.

Target Questions (response to be no more than 2 pages in total)

  1. Provide an example of a project that you have worked on that required you to actively apply your Public Health knowledge, skills and experience. Please include the background and describe your role in the project.
  2. Provide an example of how you have successfully used evidence to influence a decision or solve a problem at work. Please include how you approached the task and the outcome.
  3. Provide an example of a challenging stakeholder relationship that you have managed, which required consultation/negotiation/influence to achieve an outcome. Please include the background, reasoning and outcome.
