About this exciting opportunity
As a member of the Indigenous Partnerships Team, the Indigenous Knowledge Broker role will coordinate a range of activities that assist AIMS staff and collaborators to engage and develop sound relationships with Traditional Owners, for 2‐way exchange of scientific and Traditional information about marine research.
You will play a key role in ensuring that Traditional Owners understand and are fully informed about proposed research and assisting researchers to understand and respond to Traditional Owner concerns. Your project and time management skills will ensure you’re able to plan and undertake engagement activities with tight external deadlines, while also being sensitive and responsive to culturally appropriate protocols and practice.
This role is critical in ensuring Traditional Owners understand and are fully informed about proposed research when AIMS seeks Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) for new projects, and the role will also assist researchers to understand and respond to Traditional Owner concerns.
About you
You will have achieved bachelor’s degree level qualifications (or equivalent experience) in sustainability, natural resource management, natural sciences particularly marine science, or Indigenous Australian culture. Your Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander ancestry combined with experience in espousing Indigenous values and knowledge within large non-Indigenous corporations and forums, positions you well to authentically communicate with both Indigenous and non‐Indigenous audiences in a dignified and culturally sensitive manner, to present AIMS information.
Your exceptional time management skills will ensure your able to manage multiple competing deadlines, and work to tight timeframes. AIMS considers that being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational requirement as outlined in section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act {1991) and permitted as a 'special measure' under section 8 of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and by articles 1(4) and 2(2) of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

- AIMS AOF Level 4 salary ($90,321 to $102,784 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation

- Non-Australian Citizens must hold an appropriate Visa with working entitlements that allows paid employment with AIMS for the term of the appointment, depending on the relevant Department of Home Affairs current policies.
